Chapter Reports -April 4, 2024
Beta Chapter-Rita Corey
The BETA Chapter met in November to have our Book project day. Four of us sorted and glued Beta Chapter labels into many books for children and put them into bins. These bins were then delivered to the Women’s Crisis Center, Doctors’ and Dentists’ offices, the Courthouse and Morningside Shelter. The offices are located in Brattleboro and Bellows Falls.
We met again in December at Dummerston School to have our Christmas cookie exchange. Yummy!
We met in January to discuss plans for our March 13th guest speaker event at Dummerston School. Beta Chapter will be hosting Ann Braden, a well-known author who lives in Brattleboro. Ann writes books that are geared toward middle school aged children. She taught at BUHS many years ago before going into full time writing. Ann travels around the country speaking to students and teachers about her books.
We were so looking forward to having Ann as our guest speaker. Unfortunately, she had to cancel for personal reasons. Ann will contact us to set up another date for her presentation. We plan to invite all teachers and paras in the district. We will extend this invitation to all of you as well. I will send more details to all when we have set a new date.
Judy Abascal, a BETA member, spent a month in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
While there, she attended a DKG meeting in San Juan. In Judy’s words “I spent a lovely afternoon having a pot luck lunch and doing a painting project with my San Juan sisters.”
Judy sent us some lovely pictures of the members. She will share her visit with us at our May meeting.

EPSILON CHAPTER -Joan Kirchoff
Chapter’s Winter gathering was at Joan Kirchoff house. The members had a Sewing Bee that was a time of camaraderie, sewing hats, and communal activity toward a common goal. Over 50 winter hats were made and distributed to over ten schools in the Northeast Kingdom. Many sisters had so much fun they continued to meet and sew days after the meeting ended. Also, retired teachers meet at various homes to play board games and keep less active members engaged socially. Also, the first Vp created a pamphlet which was past out in all schools in Chapter’s region. April meeting will be a panel of specialist working in Northeast Kingdom.

• MARCH 2023 Meeting –
We had a fantastic ETA FELLOWSHIP MEETING on March 19, 2024. 4PM – 6PM. • WELLNESS MESSAGE: Wellness Idea – A MOMENT FOR YOU – You can do so much in a single moment. You can flash a smile that makes someone's day. You can hug and be hugged. You can give a compliment and let one soak in. You can count a blessing – or two! You can think a positive thought and you can picture your future. A future that looks bright!

Welcome to I Found A Quilted Heart!
ETA Members anonymously created and placed small quilted hearts in community places around our town to help brighten the day of a stranger. Cheryl led us through step by step directions to create a quilted heart bout the size of your hand. We attached a small card to the heart that read: YOU FOUND A HEART! PLEASE TAKE ME HOME. On the back of the small card we wrote, “Delta Kappa Gamma ETA Chapter, Bennigton, VT.” Please go to our DKG VT Website and under ETA Chapter, you will see photos of ETA Members enjoying fellowship and creating these hearts. We thanked Cheryl and gave her a red rose.
As always, at the end of every DKG VT ETA CHAPTER Meeting, we form a circle and Sue Green, ETA Music Chairperson, leads us in singing our DKG Song.

You are at peace with yourself. “The word ‘Namaste’ means ‘the light in me reflects the light in you’ and I think the thing that makes people attractive are the people who shine their light and the people who can recognize t that light in others.” – Chris Sullivan.
At this meeting, we will have our FOUNDERS' DAY CEREMONY.
ETA Membership - Currently, ETA Chapter has 4 members holding an Office or being a Committee Chair for DKG VT. We have 50 ETA Members.

Gamma has been hard at work getting ready for the Soup Bowls for Hunger Event. This event will be held on April 11th at the Rutland High School. The Soup Bowls for Hunger Event raises much needed funds for area food shelves. Gamma works with students, staff at the Rutland High School, and community members to pull off a wonderful event where participants pay for a handcrafted bowl, soup, roll and desserts. If interested please check out the website https://soupbowlsrutland.org/
In March we met at the Maples and learned about the Reinbow Therapeutic Riding Center. This center provides much needed therapy with horses for people of all ages. We will be meeting again in May as we learn more about banned books at the Fox Room at the Rutland Free Library. In May we will also be working with members to start planning for next year's programs.

The Zeta Chapter of Vermont DKG, respectfully submits this report-Sheryl Aliquo, President
During the fall of 2023, we were pleased to gather in September and October.
On September 5th- 2023, 17 members and 1 guest met at the Dairy Center in Enosburg. Mr. Allen Demar, State Representative in Montpelier for Enosburg and Montgomery was our speaker.. Mr. Demar, as an appointee of the Health and Wellness committee, shared bills being presented and their connection to education. It was an informative presentation. We made a donation to the United Church of Johnson to help those impacted by the flooding in Johnson. We have held many meetings at the church and Alice Whiting, a long time member of Zeta Chapter belongs to this church. The meeting ended after sharing a meal.
On October 2023- 12 members met at the dairy center in Enosburg for brunch, followed by a business meeting. The focus of the discussion was filling leadership positions and growing our membership. All of those attending are committed to continuing our lively and informative meetings. We discussed sharing some of the positions as a leadership team. After the meeting Marilyn graciously agreed to be our liaison to the DKG Vermont.
On April 6,2024, we plan to meet at which time we will learn more about the solar Eclipse.
On May 7, 2024, we will meet to install new members and to celebrate Founders day together.

DKG VT 2024 SPRING LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
LEADERSHIP REPORT
Donna Stone, DKG VT 2nd VP
IT'S ALL ABOUT LEADERSHIP!
Leadership is a major common challenge at both chapter and state levels. Why?
When speaking with DKG VT members about Leadership, I asked, “What do you think is
preventing our DKG Members from stepping forward and taking on a LEADERSHIP role?” One
common answer was a lack of confidence. A few members stated that they didn't feel that they could
do the job as well as their predecessor. As DKG LEADERS we need to inspire our DKG Sisters to
step up and accept the leadership opportunity. We are all in this mission and vision together!
Every DKG member is considered a leader – a woman who wants to make a difference. We need to
invite, ask, and encourage members we know who have the potential to be a leader. Let them know
that they are NEVER alone in DKG. Help is only a phone call, an email, or a message away.
Remember that as DKG Members, we are surrounded by awesome women who offer friendship and
support at all times. Mentoring is a huge part of LEADERSHIP. DKG leaders work together to make
things happen! It's not just about holding a title; it's about personal and professional growth.
We are leading women educators impacting education worldwide. That's our vision.
Several times, I am asked, “How do you feel about being a DKG VT LEADER?”
I feel I have made a meaningful impact being a leader in DKG VT both within the organization
and in the broader educational community. It took a special DKG VT Member to support me and give
me the confidence to step up and jump in! Along with being a DKG VT Leader, I also have gained
recognition, respect, and personal fulfillment along the way. I am thankful for my DKG ETA Sister to
have had these leadership conversations with me.
I will further discuss the topics in this LEADERSHIP report at the LEADERSHIP BREAKOUT
SESSION that I will lead at our DKG VT 2024 Spring Leadership Conference on April 27, 2024.

The Three “R’s” of Leadership:
RESPECT, RECOGNIZE, REWARD
Recently updated information of DKG Vermont chapter events and meetings with pictures have been posted on both the state website and DKG Vermont Face Book page. Please continue to forward pictures and descriptions of projects and events being held in your chapters. I find that the DKG Vermont Face Book page is very useful to post information that our chapter members can view very quickly. I hope members continue to use the website and Face Book page to stay connected with our chapters throughout the state.
Finance Report- Treasurer's Report was given by Ann Bannister. The proposed budget for 2024-2025 was discussed. voted on. and approved.
Caroline Pellon brought up for discussion that if we have future co-presidents, both receiving a stipend to go to International Conventions or Conferences might not be fiscally possible. It was tabled and will be discussed further at the next executive board meeting.
State Historian Report-Julie Fox
Paula Townsend, the former State Historian and I got together and organized all of the artifacts that we felt needed to be saved. We then took these artifacts to Castleton University and added them to their archives which is located in the library. As they are in the process of organizing this section, we were unable to locate previous DKG additions, but will check in the future in hopes of getting all of our artifacts in one area.
DKGVT State Membership Report April 2024
Marcia Barron and Ellen Knapp
Currently DKG VT has 225 members: 203 Active, 18 Reserved, 3 Honorary, and 1 collegiate.
The committee meets bimonthly on zoom where we discuss membership issues such as finding new members, holding orientation and induction, ways to keep members involved in programs, projects, and fellowship, reaching out to members who cannot attend, and recognizing members’ accomplishments.
At our last meeting on March 18, 2024 we shared our successes.
Gamma: Jennifer Scott remarked that online orientation sessions have been thorough and engaging, also showcasing current members and introducing International with Pride in the Big Picture. Induction ceremonies involve many members through recognition of sponsors and having seated members read the 7 purposes. Gamma has instituted efforts to recognize members who have done something for the society or for noteworthy endeavors. Also, Gamma looks for ways to involve members in meeting planning, presentation or set-up. After last meeting’s discussion of fellowship building Gamma began to plan ice breakers (mixers) for each meeting and formed a phone tree to connect with all members, especially those who are unable to attend meetings regularly. We recognize the excellent efforts of chair, Jennifer Scott, and the many members who sponsored new inductees during her three years of service.
Eta: Donna Stone lists many things Eta does that are common to other chapters, such as a phone tree and pamphlets for schools (which go out twice a year: January and September). Their Biography book is a work in progress (as is Gamma’s; we all try to catch up to Epsilon’s). The Eta sunshine committee has many tasks of collaboration to support fellowship: red roses to members for various reasons and recognition, white rose for a family funeral. The winter warmth project occurs yearly as does the raffle at each of the four meetings to raise money for their high school scholarship fund. There are those who support teachers in the classroom for activities like writing thank you notes or that show up at the public negotiations meetings or join in “Bennington Cares” once a month to discuss how to support teachers. The next Eta meeting stresses fellowship and kindness by making a quilted hearts to spread around and lots of information about the Spring Leadership Conference.
Epsilon: Joan Kirchoff expressed many ways they retain and recruit members. The sewing bee was a time of camaraderie, sewing hats, and communal activity toward a common goal. Many sisters has so much fun they continued to meet and sew days after the meeting ended. Other sisters meet at houses to play board games and keep less active sisters engage socially. Also, the first VP created a pamphlet to pass out in schools. At the next meeting in Newport, potential new members are coming with current members. Excellent programs keep members coming to meetings. Members help out if a leader is in need of assistance.
Ellen and Marcia will attend the NH Spring Convention with Mary Ann on April 13. We will present a rose and certificate of appreciation for their participation in the Green and White Membership Competition. We began the competition in August, 2022 and ended in February , 2024. In that period Vermont lost 13 members to death or drop and gained 24 new members by induction or reinstatement, overall increasing our membership by 11 people. This has increased our overall membership by 0.486%. The numbers from NH will be forthcoming. Whoever has the best percentage increase is less important than the efforts we all put forth to keep DKG viable and thriving. On April 27 Ellen and Marcia will present three 15 minute breakout sessions on the role of the chapter membership chairs at the DKG VT Leadership Conference. We will also conduct the Service of Remembrance where we will honor Gisele Gaskin of Epsilon.
