Jan Danziger Arts Day
DKG Vermont sponsored Jan Danziger Arts Day on October 22,2022 at the BROC Center in Rutland, VT. The day started with a sign-in time and light breakfast treats at 8:30am. There were 8 creative art workshops throughout the day- Pressed Flower Cards, Folded Christmas Ornament, Santa Claus Log Cabin Quilt Project, Water Color Art, Illuminating Fairy Jars, Flannel Gnomes, Canvas Pant Fall Leaves Art, and Turkey Design Iris Folding. There were 23 DKG Vermont members and guests attending. Everyone contributed to a wonderful assortment of food for a pot luck lunch in the middle of the day. There was much camaraderie, laughter, smiles, listening, learning as well as some challenges to overcome with technology, sewing machines, and tricky gnome beards. But at the end of the day everyone could be very proud of the many individually creative art items to be brought home to display or share with others.

Jan Danziger Arts Day
DKG Vermont’s Fine Arts Committee has agreed that the name Women in the Arts Retreat will be changed this year to Jan Danziger Arts Day in honor of DKG Vermont Delta Member and former State President, Jan Danziger. Jan was a career art teacher at Twinfield Union High school in Plainfield, VT. Jan started the first Women in the Arts Retreat on a dreary March Saturday in 2004. Sandra Wells was state president and our state chapter was still named Alpha Lambda.
Jan used her talents and creativity to organize an annual event to include all Vermont state wide DKG members in a fun filled day of art. She invited DKG members each year to Twinfield Union High school to participate in a wide variety of different forms of art from painting on pottery, trivets, en plain air painting to quilting, jewelry making, iris paper folding, animal sculptures, tin ornaments, yarn painting, felt work, bamboo printing, iris folding, drumming, poetry, haiku and recorders to name just a few. Some examples of art themes were the fourth annual which was held March 19,2007-Connecting through creativity, camaraderie, and cuisine and the fifth annual which was March 8, 2008- For "Femmage", Fromage, and Friends.
When she retired from teaching Jan continued providing this Arts Retreat event for several years to DKG members at the Senior Center in Plainfield, VT. Our fine arts committee knows that without Jan Danziger there would not be a Women in the Arts Retreat. This has led to the name change to – Jan Danziger Arts Day.
