Sculptural Papermaking: My Creative Journey
Lian Brehm is an artist working primarily in handmade paper sculpture and will give a talk about her work on February 7th . A DKG member since 2007, she taught Elementary Art in Vermont schools for 28 years before retiring in June 2021. She is now a full time studio artist and hand papermaker. Her work has exhibited both nationally and internationally.
She currently has a paper sculpture exhibited at the 2023-24 International Paper Biennale in Shanghai, China. She is the recipient of several awards including from the Blanche E. Colman Foundation, the Freeman Foundation and the Vermont Studio Center and recently was awarded a full Phil Osgatharpe scholarship to attend the Vermont Studio Center in November 2023. She completed a winter studio residency in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in February 2023 and exhibited work from this residency in a solo show at Satellite Gallery in Vermont last June.
She will return to another residency in Mexico for the month of March and is working towards a solo exhibition this summer at WhiteWater Gallery in East Hardwick. Lian received her MFA from RI School of Design in 1984, her BFA from Alfred University's College of Ceramics in 1980, and was included in the European Honors Program in Ceramics at Wolverhampton Polytechnic in England. Lian maintains her studio practice in South Walden, Vermont.
